Your Sense of Fashion and Your Home

Fashion influence has become global and its inspiration can be found everywhere. It is seen as the ultimate style embitterer and designers are seen as the leaders in the aesthetics. Décor and couture have often had ties to each other historically, and the styles and trends sometimes even follow each and become intermingled. Recently, it has become more and more common that a fashion designer will design a room, building or product. Apart from appearing well dressed and groomed, people in that trend conscious society a times want to be regarded as hip. This influence stretches to their homes, which they want to be as immaculate and style savvy as possible. Fashion designers are given commissions to design buildings, interiors, tableware, interiors of cars, luggage, the list is endless. It is proof of their discerning tastes that organizations trust them to the hilt. Marock Resources is connecting home buyers with the product marketplace, the organization is dedicated to researching and sourcing the best homes, bringing together the projects, products and people in the sector.
A lot of what we see in interior (homes) is strongly been influenced by trends that have its origin in fashion. There is a direct influence from the fashion pages of magazines on the décor of a home. Fashion influences such as colour blocking where rooms in the house are painted a particular colour have become an almost common occurrence amongst the stylish. Some clients might opt to have their rooms painted in different shades of blue or go extreme and have lilac room, pink room, giving the children in the house the permission to choose colours that suits their taste as opposed to before where all the rooms were painted cream or off white.
Another example is the animal prints such as the tiger and snakeskin patterns, which have always been in fashion. Now other animal prints such as the zebra are currently being seen as very fashionable especially with homes that have minimalist décor. The black and white stripes are popular for cushion and rugs especially in Africa where clients are now becoming continent proud and want a product or interior touch that asserts this new establishment order.
Botanical influences are also very hip at the moment with fashion houses as Hermes, Pucci and Etro showing strong jungle flower prints to evoke the spirit of summer. It is very fashionable to have large frame prints or drawings of flowers hanging on the wall in houses which can be very effective against walls painted with white or in ivory.
Coming closer to Africa and Nigeria in particular we can see the lasting influence of African textiles that people now wear asserting naturalistic pride such as Ankara, Aso-Oke and Adire. These exotic beautiful fabrics are captured in pillows, bedspreads, cushions and now rugs for modern stylish Nigerians. Their homes scream “Afropolitan”, a sign of their trans – Atlantic dwellings that binds their foreign educational backgrounds and their need to show that they are Africans. With interior design and fashion, this has been made possible. The next time you visit a friend’s home to be sure to look out for these fashion influences in their houses and compliment them. Fashion thrives on praises.
